Fixation Gloves

I had what I thought was a terrific idea -- homemade isotoners by using stretchy yarn. Well, it was a PITA to knit with and isn't that warm, and seems to be showing wear fairly quickly. Makes me wonder about socks from this yarn? Pattern is the basic one from Vogue Knitting on the Go Gloves. Amazingly easy but pretty tedious to weave in all the ends, especially with a cotton.
